Translational- patient-oriented research- studying the relationship between control of breathing and Upper Airway Mechanics during Sleep.
Sleep apnea/hypopnea syndrome is a prevalent disorder leading to serious public health consequences. The responsible mechanism for sleep apnea and hypopnea is not known. Our lab is investigating the effect of inhibited ventilatory drive on upper airway mechanics in human during sleep using fiberoptic imaging.
